REST IN PEACE, BROTHER LRRG

Very sad news has hit the LRRG forums today. Brother Living-Room Rock God Bucko was killed during a motorcycle tour with friends in Australia.

Please stop by the Two Wheels Forums to give your condolences to his friends and family. There will be no further posts on this site for the rest of the week.

Rock on, brother Living-Room Rock God!

FEATURED LRRG

WE WON!

King Philip would like to say a few words... if he just would stop laughing.

FEATURED CHANNEL: MusicTVNet

So for what I could gather reading the information provided in the channel, MusicTVNet does pretty much what we do, only in an apparently more serious, less goofing off kind of way. Also, they cover more genres in music than us, rock-heads. (For more information in how to be featured there, watch the video).

I'm not really sure if it works or not, because I just found it. What is really interesting about this channel is the three play lists, which are full of YouTube artists performing originals and non-originals. Even LRRG Bububuvard's rendition of Mr. Bungle's "Squeeze me Macaroni" was featured in one of them.

MusicTVNet also has a MYSPACE site.

THEORY

ORIGINAL LRRG SONG

(c)bluekoi
Finding an original song in the endless videos in YouTube that is worth looking is almost impossible. The majority of the "original songs" over there are pretty much 15 year old girls with an acoustic guitar singing about boys in junior high. But then, I came across bluekoi and had a listen to his "Once Upon a Time", and my reaction was something to the effect of "aaaaahhhh!".

FATHER AND SON

Some love him, some hate him, but everybody knows Cat Stevens. From strat2caster's big repertoire of acoustic covers, I chose "Father and Son". Plus, this guy's t-shirts rule.

LRRGS UNITE!

We Living-Room Rock Gods watch out for each other, and this time is our turn to help Phil (11111phil11111) out. He has entered a Smashing Pumpkins contest and he needs our help to win, by GOING HERE and voting for his "United States" drum cover (by Phil McKenna).

How do I vote? Click the box next to Phil's cover and name on the site's right column and push "vote" and voila!

DA CHEEZ DIPPAZZ

Da Cheez Dippazz (dacheezdippazz in YouTube) are a Primus cover band from the Netherlands. They've made quite clear they're NOT a Primus tribute band, since their lineup is quite original: their vocalist is the guitar player... and a girl (and her name actually is Maud, which fits in just perfect).

This is them doing "John the Fisherman" (with a little YYZ intro). Besides their YouTube channel, they also have an official website, CLICK HERE to visit.

UKULELE MADNESS

What better way to cover 311's "Amber" than to so with an ukulele? diezo808 proves there's no better way. This rendition will make you want to be in Hawaii laying down on a sandy beach sipping on some alcoholic beverage watching the sunset.

3 STARS!?

I don't know how many of you out there are Incubus fans, but trust me, this is pretty good, and I don't think mrjoecool is getting the views/ratings he deserves, so I call upon you, LRRG's to check out his rendition of "Hilikus" (I know, another Incubus video) and give him the rating/views/comments he deserves!

FEATURED YOUTUBE CHANNEL: ZAOC

For the longest time now, I've tried to feature one of this guy's videos in the site, but haven't been able to, since his videos' embedding is not available. But that's OK. Why not feature his whole channel? and here's a very good reason why.

I don't know about you, but after discovering Zaoc's channel, and surfing through it for a while, I discovered something that I thought was really awesome, and could never think of by myself. It was a video of him playing a song... with another YouTube user from a whole other part of the world! A short time after that, I met a certain pianist from the UK (Enké).

We got the idea of forming a band, but neither one of us knew how to make split-screen videos, so I sent a message to Zaoc, and he was kind enough to share his split-screen secrets with me, and the rest is history. So, in short, I don't know if he was the first YouTube user ever to do collaborations, but he certainly was one of the earliest. So visit his channel, people, that's LRRG history right there!

GUITAR SCRATCH TUTORIAL

As may of you may have seen in metallicat511's "Bulls on Parade" rendition, he actually knows how to do the Tom Morello guitar scratch, and finally yesterday he posted a small tutorial of how it's done. Enjoy!

LRRG CHALLENGE UPDATE

Someone (Rob) brought to my attention that a week it's very little time to accept submissions, plus I've only received one of them (good work, Olralph), so I'm moving the dead line until the last Monday of the month (Februray 25th.) so get crackin' LRRGs!

SMOOTH

I remember a few years back when this song by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas came out, and it was very over-played. However, watching hendrymiranda's rendition of it was nice. I still can't listen to the original, but this guy did an awesome job.

If you like his playing, he also has a MYSPACE channel.

METALLICA DRUM MEDLEY

I'm sure by now most of you have seen or at least heard from vadrum, and if you have not, you don't know what you're missing. I chose to show this Metallica medley of his, but he even goes as far a so drum to the rhythm of ring-tones and Nintendo music... seriously. And he does an amazing job, too.

THE VOWEL SONG

I'm sure most of you have seen this before (those of you who haven't, take a look). It's a song by Mojo Bobfoot, best known as one of Rob's (zodakironfist) bands. This was actually submitted, which makes me a very happy LRRG that he would ask me to add it to the archives. I thought just that wasn't enough, and that it deserved it's own post.

To download the song, Right-click HERE and chose "Save Target As..."

This is original copyrighted material.

Submit your videos HERE. Please write "LRRG Submisson" as a subject.

LRRG BLINDFOLD CHALLENGE

You all remember this Metallicat511 video...

So here's the LRRG Challenge: record any song while blindfolded. Submit them to LRRGods@gmail.com writing "LRRG Blindfold Challenge" as a subject. Winner will be featured in the site, in both a post, and the menus on the right (much like the Featured LRRG). The submissions end next Monday (February 11th).

This challenge is for any LRRGs (except singers, of course). This is the first LRRG Challenge ever. We'll see how it goes!

FUNKYNICK'S SCHOOL OF FUNK

Jamiroquai's "The Kids" bass line (by the immortal Stuart Zender) is one of my favorite, so I was quite happy about finding this awesome rendition from funkynic from Argentina. Be sure to have room for tapping foot/bob head when you watch this.
